The Joys of Outside

23 Mar

This is the first post of many more to come where I will be documenting stories to share with baby boy as he grows older of his amazing Uncle Dan who passed away September 26, 2010 at the age of 21.  I want to be able to share with my son who his Uncle was as a person, his passions and show him how much drive he had in everything he did.

I opened the front door to let the sun shine in the other day as the days are getting warmer and brighter now that the winter is hopefully coming to a close and spring is here.  I am looking forward to the days ahead where we do not have to put you in your snowsuit to head out the door.  The days where we can run outside barefoot, pick blades of grass, swing on the swings and collect sticks and pinecones.

As soon as I opened the front door you quickly crawled over and started to bang on the glass. You pulled yourself up to standing and were amazed at everything you could see outside.  You banged on the door, knocking and tapping it.  You then crawled over to your toys and starting to bring some of your favourite ones with you back to the front door.  You pressed your nose against the cold glass, looking curiously as cars drove by, and I could tell you were wondering how you could get out there.  Just like your Uncle Dan.  He always wanted to be outside too.  When he was small just like you he would go to the door and try to get outside.  When he was tall enough he figured out how to open the door.  Snow or no snow he wanted outside, just like I can see you do.  I am waiting for the day for you to figure out how to push the door open.  You can’t pull any tricks on us though.  Your uncle taught us how to bolt the door shut so you can not escape out in the cold in just a diaper like he did some 20 years ago 😉

The outside awaits your curious self, just like it did for your uncle.  Building snowman, climbing trees, dirt biking on trails, running and jumping around, chasing a ball and shooting a puck on the hockey net.

Love Mom

Wow, beautiful. Dominic you are a very lucky little boy to have a mom like you have. Enjoy all the wonderful stories she tells you about your very special Uncle Dan.

Thanks! I think it’s important for him to have these memories written down in case he wants to have something special to connect with his uncle in a way still. It also helps me document wonderful memories that I can look back at. Wow, thanks for reading my blog :). I am a strong advocate of what you do and the amazing written material you provided to parents!
